Pakistan and Afghanistan have announced a brief, temporary pause in offensive operations from 18/19 March to 23/24 March 2026, following requests from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey. Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that Pakistan is instituting a pause against terrorists and their support infrastructure in Afghanistan. Taliban Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid announced that the Islamic Emirate will suspend Defensive Operations (Rad-ul Zulm) for Eid, while preserving the right to respond decisively to any threat. The leaders acknowledged the support of friendly nations and framed the pause as a chance to reduce propaganda, hate speech, and negative social media campaigns, and to encourage positive engagement between the two sides. While brief, the pause is presented as an opportunity to foster lasting peace, provided the Afghan regime takes responsibility for curbing groups like TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) and BLA (Baluchistan Liberation Army) and for ensuring stability along the border.
