In Rawalpindi on 22 March 2026, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) unveiled the Space4Climate Initiative to boost climate resilience and action through space-based technologies. Central to the program is a GeoAI-enabled Climate Observatory, an integrated digital platform that consolidates satellite data, geospatial analytics, and climate modeling into actionable insights for policymakers, researchers, and communities. The platform will monitor atmospheric pollutants such as aerosols, SOx, and NOx, greenhouse gases including CO and methane, as well as forests, glaciers, coastal dynamics, river systems, and land use. It will also track climate-induced hazards such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, sea level rise, and glacial lake outburst floods. By integrating space-based data with in-situ measurements, Space4Climate aims to support evidence-based policymaking and sustainable development, advancing Pakistan's climate agenda in line with global efforts.
