On International Day to Combat Islamophobia, we recognize that Islamophobia is systemic, institutional, and pervasive, rooted in irrational fear of Muslims and Islam and fueled by ignorance, prejudice, and misinformation. It manifests in violence against Muslims, the demolition of mosques, desecration of the Holy Quran, and the disparagement of Islamic cultural and religious symbols such as the hijab. The observance calls for a recommitment to countering this scourge by fostering interfaith dialogue, harmony, and constructive engagement. By coming together to safeguard shared values, communities can reject the divisive and disruptive tendencies of faith-based discrimination, racism, and intolerance that empower Islamophobia, and promote inclusion, dignity, and equal protection for all.
