Now underway at the #CombatIslamophobia event, the Opening Segment examines how Islamophobia has evolved in the digital era and the consequences for peaceful, cohesive, and just societies. Spearheaded by high-level voices including Miguel Moratinos, A_Yildiz_, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and representatives from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the session highlights rising prejudice, hate speech, and discrimination against Muslim communities, as well as the broader social and political drivers behind these trends. The discussion covers the role of online platforms and media narratives, the impact on civic participation and human rights, and regional variations in Islamophobic sentiment.
