"⭕️ Taliban’s “Civilian Site” Lie: Hiding Terror Bases Behind Human Shields To those analysing the current escalation between Pakistan & the Afghan Taliban regime, it is essential to separate emotional propaganda from the clear standards of IHL & IR. The Taliban regime is deliberately manipulating civilian narratives to shield its own military infrastructure & terrorist partnerships. On the night of March 16-17th 2026, the PAF executed a series of high precision, intelligence based airstrikes at 9 critical locations across Kabul & Nangarhar. These were not random attacks. They were surgical strikes against verified military objectives a Drone Assembly Unit, an Ammunition Depot & a Drone Storage Facility responsible for the recent, unprovoked incursions into Pakistani sovereign territory. The Taliban regime knows exactly what those facilities were used for. The strikes themselves were precise. What caused the massive destruction afterward were the secondary detonations of the Taliban regime’s own stockpiles explosives, drone fuel & ammunition stored at the site. Those detonations triggered a fire that spread to an adjacent structure. The Taliban regime is now claiming that the building which was struck was a “civilian site.” But their own visual evidence exposes the lie: the structure remains standing & structurally intact, proving it was not the target of a direct kinetic strike. In other words, the Taliban regime’s own footage dismantles its propaganda. Their sudden claim that the building was a rehab center for drug addicts only deepens their legal culpability. If that claim is true, it means the Taliban regime itself placed a civilian rehab facility inside the blast radius of a drone factory & ammunition depot. That is not negligence it is a blatant violation of international law. What the world is witnessing is a pattern of deliberate lawbreaking by the Taliban regime: -Violation of UNSC Res. 1373: Under this binding Chapter VII mandate, all states are strictly prohibited from providing active or passive support to entities involved in terrorist acts. By harbouring TTP & enabling drone assembly platforms used for cross-border attacks, the Taliban regime is directly violating a cornerstone of global counter-terrorism law. -Violation of the Duty of Precaution (Article 58, Add. Protocol I): IHL requires parties to avoid placing military objectives within or near civilian infrastructure. By embedding drone factories & ammunition depots next to civilian labeled facilities, the Taliban regime has effectively militarised civilian health infrastructure, a practice condemned under UNSC Res. 2286. -Illegal Use of Human Shields (Article 51(7), Geneva Conv. IV): The deliberate co-location of military targets with civilian labels in order to deter legitimate strikes is a war crime. Even if the Taliban hides civilian buildings inside a military base, it doesn’t make the base off-limits the base remains a lawful military target under international law. -The “Unwilling or Unable” Doctrine: When a regime allows its territory to be used for cross-border attacks & refuses or fails to stop them, the targeted state has the right to act in self-defence. Under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Pakistan is legally entitled to neutralise threats emanating from Afghan territory when the Taliban regime is unwilling or incapable of doing so. International law is clear. The responsibility for incidental damage lies with the party that places civilians near military objectives & refuses to evacuate them from an active military zone especially after weeks of escalating hostilities & clear warnings. The Taliban regime can’t run drone factories, stockpile explosives, harbour terrorists & then cry civilian site the moment those facilities are struck. Pakistan remains on the right side of the law, acting to neutralise the machinery of terror that the Taliban regime continues to shelter behind a thin & deceptive veil of civilian infrastructure."
