ISLAMABAD – In the wake of Pakistan’s recent victory in a sporting contest against India, a fierce political debate has erupted online, centering on allegations of hypocrisy against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and unwavering praise for the nation's military.

The discourse was ignited by social media posts contrasting Khan’s long-standing public calls for national sacrifice with the personal lives of his children, who reside abroad. “He has spent years preaching sacrifice while his own children live safely abroad. The lies aren’t new but the hypocrisy has never been clearer,” stated one viral commentary, reflecting a sentiment shared by a segment of the online populace.

This criticism was directly paired with effusive tribute to the Pakistani Armed Forces. The same voices hailed the military's role as the nation's defenders, stating, “We sleep in peace because they stand awake.” The recent athletic win over India was cited as further evidence of the “professionalism that runs through our armed forces,” with posts extending a “salute to the brave soldiers.”

The narrative sharply concluded by framing figures like Imran Khan as being “on an agenda to destabilise Pakistan,” a serious allegation in the current political climate. Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been a vocal critic of the current government and the military establishment, facing a series of legal challenges and convictions that his party claims are politically motivated.

Supporters of the former Prime Minister were quick to dismiss the allegations as a smear tactic, arguing that the personal choices of adult children are irrelevant to political discourse and that Khan’s own sacrifices for the country, including his political career and personal liberty, are a matter of public record.

Political analysts observe that this exchange highlights the deeply polarized nature of Pakistani politics, where nationalistic sentiment, reverence for the military, and personal attacks on political figures are frequently intertwined in public debate. The use of a sporting victory to fuel political point-scoring underscores how national events are often leveraged within the country's contentious political arena.

There has been no official comment from Imran Khan’s family regarding the personal allegations. The PTI social media team, however, continues to focus its messaging on claims of political persecution and calls for democratic transparency.
